چکیده
The aim of our study was to define the dose-response effect of a short-term treatment with different recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) doses (1.25, 2.5, 5.0, 10.0, and 20.0 μg ⋅ kg-1 ⋅ day-1for 4 days) on insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I) and insulin-like growth factor-binding protein (IGFBP)-3 levels in 21 normal young adults of both sexes. The dose of 1.25 μg/kg rhGH did not modify IGF-I levels. The dose of 2.5 μg/kg rhGH significantly increased IGF-I levels in men ( P < 0.05) but not in women, whereas the higher doses increased IGF-I levels in both sexes ( P < 0.002). IGFBP-3 levels were not modified by 1.25 or 2.5 μg/kg rhGH in either sex. On the other hand, 5.0 μg/kg increased IGFBP-3 levels in men ( P < 0.05) but not in women, whereas the higher doses increased IGFBP-3 levels similarly in both sexes ( P < 0.02). In conclusion, our results demonstrate that IGF-I and IGFBP-3 responses to rhGH are dose and sex dependent. However, IGFBP-3 is less sensitive than IGF-I to rhGH stimulation.

متن کاملEffects of Adenotonsillectomy on Serum Levels of IGF-1 and IGFBP-3 and Growth Indices in Children with Adenotonsillar Hypertrophy or Recurrent Tonsillitis
Introduction: Adenotonsillar hypertrophy (ATH) may present with growth retardation. Insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) mediates the anabolic effects of growth hormone (GH) on tissues. Most of the circulating IGF-1 molecules are bound to insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 3 (IGFBP-3). IGF-1 and IGFBP-3 serum levels reflect the levels of daily mean serum GH and are used as indices for e...
متن کاملUnequal impact of short-term testosterone repletion on the somatotropic axis of young and older men.
The present clinical study compares the impact of low- and high-dose parenteral testosterone (T) supplementation on daily GH secretory patterns and serum IGF-I, IGFBP-1, and IGFBP-3 concentrations in healthy older (60-82 yr) and young (20-40 yr) men. To this end, we administered three consecutive weekly injections of randomly ordered saline and either a low (100 mg) or a high (200 mg) dose of t...
متن کاملLong-term testosterone supplementation augments overnight growth hormone secretion in healthy older men.
Circulating testosterone (T) and GH/IGF-I are diminished in healthy aging men. Short-term administration of high doses of T augments GH secretion in older men. However, effects of long-term, low-dose T supplementation on GH secretion are unknown. Our objective was to evaluate effects of long-term, low-dose T administration on nocturnal GH secretory dynamics and AM concentrations of IGF-I and IG...
متن کاملThe Effect of Eight Weeks of Polarized Training on GH/IGF-1 Axis Hormones Response in Active Young Male
Background & objectives: Insulin-like growth factor -1 (IGF-1) has a variety of roles, but the abundance of scientific evidence indicates that it is a metabolic biomarker associated with physical fitness and health. The present study investigates the effect of eight weeks of polarized exercise training on serum GH / IGF-1- indices in active young men. Methods: In this double-blind experimental ...
